1.Purpose of Job
To conduct and supervise examinations in a professional, calm, and supportive manner, ensuring full compliance with JCQ regulations. The postholder is responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, and smooth running of all examination sessions.
2.Principal Accountabilities
•Liaise with Exams Officers regarding Awarding Body regulations, special arrangements, and the collection of examination materials.
•Set up examination rooms in line with JCQ requirements, ensuring all equipment or terminals are prepared for online assessments where applicable.
•Check and verify learner identification prior to entry and ensure no unauthorised items (e.g., mobile phones, smart watches) are brought into the exam room.
•Respond to candidate queries appropriately without offering guidance or assistance that could compromise exam integrity.
•Supervise learners during toilet breaks or any permitted rest breaks.
•Provide support for learners with approved access arrangements (e.g., acting as a reader or scribe).
•Ensure all candidates understand and adhere to examination regulations.
•Maintain the security and integrity of examination materials before, during, and after each session.
•Take proactive steps to prevent malpractice or administrative errors.
•Collect and organise all exam scripts, attendance registers, and related documentation, returning them promptly to Exams Officers and reporting any irregularities (e.g., disturbances, late arrivals).
•Keep up to date with Awarding Body requirements and any relevant software updates for online assessments.
•Support College policies, procedures, and quality assurance systems, and carry out all duties in line with the College’s Health & Safety Policy.
•Attend mandatory training, refresher sessions, or updates as required by the College.
•At all times deliver a professional approach in all aspect of work, treating all staff, students and the wider college community with respect.
3.General
•This is a casual position and does not constitute a contract of employment.
•The College is under no obligation to offer hours, and invigilators are under no obligation to accept work.
•Availability will be requested two months in advance of the exam timetable. Applicants with availability of fewer than two days per week are advised that this role may not be suitable.
•Full training will be provided upon appointment.
•Perform other such duties commensurate with the grade of the post, as required by the Chief Executive Officer/Principal and/or Head of Data, Funding & Exams.
4.Safeguarding Responsibilities
All staff have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people. Invigilators must follow College procedures for reporting concerns and must complete all required safeguarding training.
