The Opportunity
Arup’s HV Power Systems team works with a variety of clients to provide consultancy services in power system studies and grid connection studies for HVAC and HVDC networks. Responsibilities include load flow, fault level, dynamic G99/Grid Code compliance studies (fault ride through, voltage control, frequency response), power quality assessments, and electromagnetic transient studies. The team has a strong pipeline of work with an extensive client base and plans to grow.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for candidates holding a PhD, MSc, MEng or BEng in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems or a related field. Preference for Chartered Engineers or IET chartership candidates. The role involves business development, bids, and technical project work.
Key Qualifications
* Demonstrable skill in providing power system consultancy services for transmission and distribution utilities and renewable generation developers.
* Knowledge of UK and international grid connection processes.
* Client and project management in a technical capacity.
* Detailed knowledge of power system analysis and delivery of detailed studies using PowerFactory, PSS/E, IPSA, ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP‑ATP, ERACS, SKM.
* Able to perform dynamic grid connection studies to meet G99 and international Grid Codes.
* Extensive experience performing power quality assessments (G5/5, P28, P29).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Requirements
* Post‑graduate qualification in electrical engineering/power systems.
* HVDC systems design/studies.
* Dynamic model development in PowerFactory and PSS/E for inverter‑connected generation.
* Programming skills (Python, DPL). Insulation coordination, protection settings, cable thermal rating calculations, transformer design, earthing design.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.
