An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to work as a full-time Rehabilitation Support Worker within stroke and neurological rehabilitation on a Permanent contract.
Why work with us
The post will be a rotational position working on the George Earle Acute stroke ward, Templer ward rehabilitation Unit, and within the Community Neuro Rehab Teams. The Stroke and Neuro Unit at Newton Abbot Hospital has 20 stroke and neurology beds and provides post-acute inpatient stroke rehabilitation prior to discharge to the community. The acute stroke unit is at Torbay Hospital, providing acute stroke care and assessment. The community team supports ongoing rehabilitation in patients' homes and outpatient settings. The service is part of the continuum of care in South Devon and has been nationally recognized as an example of good practice.
Role
The primary function of this role is to ensure that opportunities for patient rehabilitation are maximized during their stay in the stroke units or with the community neuro team. Under the direction of the interdisciplinary team, the post-holder will:
1. Assist registered staff in assessment and therapy tasks.
2. Implement treatment plans, including physical exercises, personal care (e.g., washing, toileting), domestic activities of daily living, use of technologies such as computing, and supporting communication and safe swallowing.
3. Work with patients experiencing cognitive and/or perceptual difficulties as part of their rehabilitation.
4. Train and educate patients, carers, and families under the supervision of registered staff.
5. Support colleagues to work collaboratively towards common goals.
6. Act as a role model, valuing everyone’s opinions and experiences.
7. Recognize and value the contributions of others in a patient’s care.
This role involves rotation across Torbay Hospital, Newton Abbot Hospital, and community settings, with shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
Our team is caring, committed, inclusive, and focused on quality. We promote solutions, strengths-based approaches, innovation, and change to improve patient care.
If you share our values and are passionate about working with people on what matters to them, you could be a valuable addition to our Torbay and South Devon Team.
