Quarter is looking for a Breakfast Chef to join our team at The Washington Guesthouse on a part‑time basis (15‑20 hours per week, worked over 4‑5 short shifts). This part‑time Breakfast Chef role would suit someone who has good cooking skills, capable of producing a full English breakfast. Your training need not be professional – confident home cooks with a passion for a good breakfast will be welcomed. In‑house training can be offered if required.
If you’re an early bird looking to have evenings free for other commitments, this may be the role for you!
Details of the Breakfast Chef role:
* Part time, 15‑20 hours per week. Given the short length of the shifts, these hours will be spread over 4‑5 morning shifts each week. As such, we're looking for good availability for morning shifts across the week (including regular weekends).
* £12.50 per hour
* Starting at 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends – an average 'shift' is 3.5‑4 hours long so you'll be finished by 9.30am‑10.30am on most days.
* You will, for the most part, be working independently.
* Food hygiene and food allergen training and certificates can be arranged for those who do not have them.
Company perks:
* Paid overtime
* Monthly service charge
* 20‑50% company discounts across Quarter's four Clifton‑based restaurants and friends and family discounts in our hotels
* 10% off your bus tickets to work via First Bus Commuter Travel Club
* Discounts with a range of local businesses, from gyms and spas to hairdressers, family‑friendly activities such as Noah's Ark Zoo Farm, B&Q and more!
* Company pension scheme
* Cycle to work scheme and secure cycle parking
* Regular company socials and parties
* Great development and fantastic opportunities for progression within our independent hotel and restaurant group
What does a typical day as Breakfast Chef look like?
You will get in and start preparing and cooking for the breakfast service – this could be cooking off certain breakfast ingredients and keeping them hot in preparation for the orders you will get. Breakfast service starts at 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends so you have an hour to cook and 'hot hold' food before guests start coming in. Eggs are prepared to order and all food is plated by you in the kitchen (no chafing dishes).
The friendly breakfast front‑of‑house team will take orders and deliver food and the Kitchen Porter will wash up plates, pots and pans, so it is just the cooking that you would need to concentrate on.
Once breakfast service has finished, you'll prepare some food items for the following day, clear down and get off home to enjoy the rest of your day!
What skills do you need to be successful as Breakfast Chef?
You’ll need to be reliable as you will be opening the kitchen in the morning and will be the first person in. You may be someone who likes routine and is happy starting early and finishing early – enabling you to focus on non‑work activities (or a second job / self‑employment / studies) for the rest of the day.
You’ll also need to be confident and keep a cool head when things get busy. Knowledge of safe processes and good food hygiene practices is imperative. We do anything from 20‑50 cooked breakfasts on a daily basis so you’ll also need to be able to work methodically to ensure each dish goes out perfectly!
Application process:
To apply, please send your CV via the 'apply now' link. The closing date for applications is Friday 31st October 2025.
Successful applicants will be contacted by a member of the HR team initially to arrange a phone interview. If successful at that stage, you will be invited for a short trial in the kitchen for you to see how it all operates and for us to check your overall skill level.
We reserve the right to close this role before the given deadline in the event a suitable candidate is found.
