The Medicines Information team in NHS Tayside is leading the way in setting standards. We seek a Senior Pharmacy Technician/Fixed Senior Pharmacy Technician to develop the Tayside Area Formulary and contribute to pharmaceutical practice in Medicines Information, advancing patient-centered care.
The post
We are creating a new role within NHS Tayside Pharmacy service. The successful candidate will join the friendly Medicines Information team at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, a major teaching hospital and NHS Tayside’s largest healthcare provider.
The role focuses on maintaining, updating, and reviewing the Tayside Area Formulary, which supports safe and effective medication use across NHS Tayside. It involves applying analytical, information retrieval, presentation, and communication skills to ensure accurate and safe formulary information.
The formulary updates are approved by the Medicines Advisory Group (MAG) and ratified by the Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee (ADTC). It is accessible via website and app, covering over 1000 medicines categorized for prescribing by non-specialists, specialists, or under specialist direction, impacting prescribing practices across the health board.
The post also involves contributing to the Medicines Information enquiry answering service, conducting comprehensive medicines enquiries per UKMi standards, and providing advice, education, and training to GP practice staff, hospital teams, and others.
The team
You will work within a small multidisciplinary team including pharmacists, a data analyst, pharmacy technicians, specialist nurses, administrative staff, and colleagues across NHS Tayside.
The Health Board
NHS Tayside offers excellent opportunities, including innovation, collaboration, and career development. Training and support will be provided. Applicants should have a National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, current GPhC registration, and significant post-qualification experience. Participation in the Medicines Information and Advice Training Programme (MIATP) is expected.
Strong communication, IT, organizational skills, and experience in medicines management or formulary work are essential. Experience working with GPs or prescribers is advantageous. The role allows for autonomous and team-based work.
Candidates not meeting all criteria for Band 5 will be supported to progress via training. A valid accuracy checking qualification is also desirable.
Hours are up to 37 per week, including weekends and public holidays; part-time applications are welcome.
