The Flood Risk Management Team is responsible for managing the local flood risk for approximately 240,000 residents in one of Wales' highest flood risk areas. The team undertakes a range of regulatory functions primarily under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and Land Drainage Act 1991, including:
* Regulatory functions (Consenting and Enforcement)
* Developing and maintaining a Local Strategy
* Flood investigations
* Asset management
* Sustainable Drainage Approval, Inspection, and Adoption
* Flooding awareness and communication
The team also delivers flood alleviation schemes such as Natural Flood Risk Management (NFM), Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDs), Property Flood Resilience/Resistance (PFR), and traditional interventions to mitigate flooding from local sources like surface water, ground water, and ordinary watercourses.
We are seeking to appoint a Flood Support & Awareness Officer. The successful candidate will contribute to developing, implementing, and delivering the Council's Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, with a specific focus on community engagement.
Applicants should have a keen interest and knowledge of community engagement techniques and website management. A degree in flood risk management, multimedia, marketing, media, journalism, environmental science, geography, civil engineering, or similar disciplines is desirable.
Experience in working effectively with professional partners and communities is essential. Experience in multimedia marketing and developing and implementing plans and guidance is also desirable.
The role will support wider responsibilities of the LLFA, SAB, and LDA regulatory bodies and may assist the team in addressing climate change and meeting carbon reduction targets.
