University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is recruiting a Highly Specialist Clinical Health Psychologist (Physical Health) for the UHP Severe Asthma Service. The post is a new role with flexibility to grow alongside the service and will work alongside nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, pharmacists and MDT coordinators.

Responsibilities
* Provide a highly specialist psychological service for adults with severe asthma and related conditions under the UHP Severe Asthma Service.
* Assess and provide psychological therapy, advice and consultation to patients and professionals within the unit, working autonomously within professional guidelines.
* Act as a specialist resource to the Trust, delivering teaching and training where required, supervising other professionals and contributing to the development of increased psychological provision within the hospital.
* Collaborate with the Severe Asthma MDT, including respiratory consultants, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, speech and language therapists, and MDT coordinators.
* Support service development and monitoring, including collection, analysis and reporting of outcome measures and data to inform quality improvement.
* Facilitate access to asthma biologics and manage comorbidities associated with asthma, linking with the SW severe asthma network.
Person Specification – Essential
Knowledge & Experience
* Demonstrable experience as a clinical/counselling psychologist.
* Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
* Knowledge of the policy and legislative context of clinical psychologists working in physical health settings.
* Experience representing clinical psychology within a multi‑disciplinary team and advising staff groups supporting vulnerable individuals.
* Experience undertaking specialist psychological assessments and providing evidence‑based interventions, with the ability to work with individuals with complex needs and undertake risk assessments.
* Experience collaborating with service users, their families/carers.
Qualifications
* Post‑graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) or an equivalent counselling psychology qualification accredited by the BPS.
* Active registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.

* Diplomatic and assertive communication with staff from all disciplines.

Knowledge & Experience
* Experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams.
* Experience providing clinical supervision to clinical and counselling psychologists.
* Experience working in a hospital environment.
* High level of knowledge and competency in comparing and contrasting frameworks used in clinical, counselling, health and applied psychology.
Qualifications
* Advanced keyboard skills.
* Post‑qualification specialist therapy/assessment training relevant to clinical health psychology.
* Post‑qualification training or demonstrated experience in supervision.
* Other related academic qualifications to Masters or Doctorate level.
Aptitude & Abilities
* Comfortable dealing with uncertainty, lack of control, death and dying.
* Demonstrated leadership roles within NHS clinical psychology services and contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi‑disciplinary, multi‑agency contexts.
Disposition / Attitude / Motivation
* Record of publishing in peer‑reviewed or professional journals and/or books.
* Personal experience of receiving formal personal growth facilitation or psychological therapy.

* Current UK professional registration.
