What Does the Job Involve?
A typical working day may include:
* Providing bookkeeping and management accounting services to a portfolio of agricultural and rural clients (including farmers, landowners, and agri-based enterprises).
* Processing sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers, including livestock and crop income/expenditure.
* Completing bank and loan reconciliations, including seasonal financing arrangements.
* Preparing and submitting VAT returns, including partial exemption and flat-rate agricultural schemes.
* Advising clients on accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or agricultural-specific systems (e.g. Farmplan).
* Supporting clients with grant claims, capital allowance records, and basic bookkeeping for diversified activities (e.g. holiday lets, renewable energy, contracting).
* Communicating directly with clients to answer queries and provide proactive financial insights.
* Preparing management reports and supporting year-end accounts preparation
* Regular travel to client premises.
What You'll Bring to the Table
Ideally, you will have:
* Strong experience managing ledgers, reconciliations, and VAT within a bookkeeping or agricultural business environment
* Confidence using accounting software and a willingness to learn farm-specific systems
* Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build long-term relationships with farming families and rural clients
* The ability to work independently to tight deadlines, particularly around seasonal peak
An AAT Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience) is preferred, but we are also open to those qualified by experience within the agricultural sector.
