Are you ready to support a team of talented engineersand shape the future of the water industry?

Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as an Associate Process Engineer in one of our rapidly growing Scotland offices (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness) whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.

At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. We have recently been named preferred bidder for one of two Primary Designers for Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise. This transformational, multi-billion-pound programme is the highest value venture ever put into place by Scottish Water and will reshape Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033 (with potential to extend for another 6 years).

AECOM will be at the heart of this ground-breaking delivery model, shaping design excellence at scale and working with Scottish Water and our Enterprise Partners to help drive outcomes that deliver value for customers in Scotland and go beyond net zero. This is a major win for AECOM and a powerful endorsement of our expertise, giving us a fantastic opportunity to deliver long-term, meaningful work that has large scale impact for communities across Scotland. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to support on this programme and work alongside a talented, diverse team committed to innovation and efficiency.

Here’s what you’ll do:

1. Deliver: Develop and check process flow diagrams, mass balance calculations, PID’s, process control, operating philosophy, control philosophy, FDS documents and the principles therein. Undertake survey and assessments of existing process/equipment (asset surveys); site visits to complete if required.

2. Quality: Produce and review client deliverables, make key technical decisions and identify when specialist input from the greater team is required. Ensure all technical documents and data are prepared and structured in accordance with relevant design standards and legislation.

3. Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in to solutions, also contributing to AECOM’s wider technical capability and innovative approach.

4. Mentor: Delegate tasks, direct and oversee the work of others and act as a technical mentor to more junior staff.

5. Lead: Represent AECOM in technical meetings with clients and work with engineers from other disciplines, ensuring an appropriate integrated solution.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

6. Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering.

7. Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM.

8. Extensive experience in water treatment, managing the technical delivery of large-scale engineering projects; water treatment process design and optimisation using appropriate Water Company standards and specifications.

9. Extensive experience of leading Feasibility, Optioneering Studies and Detailed Design for water treatment processes.

10. Ability as a mentor, checker and verifier.

11. Key contributor to proposals and in winning work.

12. Knowledge of the HAZOP process and procedures and preferably DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations) and how it is applied to typical water Treatment processes.
