The States of Guernsey are looking for an Approved Social Worker to join the Duty and Intervention Team. The Approved Social Worker (ASW) will play a central role within Guernsey’s Duty and Intervention Team, contributing specialist expertise in the coordination and assessment of individuals subject to the Bailiwick of Guernsey Mental Health Law. As part of the island-wide ASW rota, the post holder will carry out statutory responsibilities, including undertaking Mental Health Law assessments, providing professional guidance to partner agencies, and ensuring safe, lawful, and person centred decision making during periods of acute mental health need. When not on the ASW rota, the post holder will work as an integrated member of the Duty and Intervention Team, undertaking routine and urgent mental health assessments, developing care plans, and coordinating support for individuals referred into the service. The role requires a strong working knowledge of local legislation, safeguarding and MARAC procedures, and the ability to contribute to multidisciplinary processes such as capacity assessments and Needs Assessment Panel reports. The post holder must be registered with Social Work England and hold an approved Social Work qualification, demonstrating high professional standards and a commitment to promoting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of service users.
