Avonwood Primary School is a standalone primary school for children aged 4-11 in East Bournemouth, Dorset. We are part of United Learning and share strong links with Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies and United Sixth Form. We appoint on merit and are open to flexible working options.

Avonwood opened in 2014 and has grown to 570 pupils. Our facilities include a purpose-built stage, extensive outdoor spaces, a well-being hub, and access to facilities at the partner academies. Avonwood is an oversubscribed school with a strong community and a high attendance record. We expect staff to uphold our ethos and be committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare.

About the role

We are looking to appoint a Family Liaison, Safeguarding & Behaviour Officer on a permanent contract starting ASAP depending on pre-employment checks. The successful candidate will work within Avonwood as part of the pastoral team, under the direction of the Headteacher. They will support pupils and families with pastoral needs and serve as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead alongside our DSL. Responsibilities include handling behaviour incidents, supporting nurture interventions, leading small workshops, and supporting safeguarding and pastoral life at Avonwood. A Well-being hub has been opened at the center of the school for the successful candidate.

The role involves working closely with the Deputy Headteacher / DSL and SLT to support vulnerable children and families. This position is term time only with an additional paid 2 weeks for safeguarding on-call cover, on a rota basis.

You must have

* GCSE Maths and English grade C/4 or above
* initiative, problem solving and sound judgement in safeguarding and family work
* experience in safeguarding within an education setting
* ability to work with confidence and maintain discretion
* professional yet approachable demeanor


You may have

* DSL / Level 3 Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)
* experience in social care or teaching as applicable to a school setting
* pastoral qualifications (e.g., ACES, Trauma, Restorative Behaviour Management)
