Our Vision is to provide the best mental health, learning disability, autism, community, and physical health services for the populations we serve.

As an integrated Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT) delivers a comprehensive range of services, including primary and secondary mental health care, specialist inpatient care for individuals with learning disabilities, and extensive community physical health and well‑being services.

We are looking for a registered mental health nurse to support the Health Based Place of Safety (HBPoS) team at Dane Garth, Furness General Hospital, Barrow in Furness. This role provides safe environment and care for people being detained under Section 136 of the MHA and being brought in by the Police for a Mental Health Act assessment.

The service operates 24/7 and shifts cover nights, weekends and bank holidays. The role requires positive and compassionate nurses with excellent therapeutic engagement and assessment skills to support people experiencing acute distress.


Main duties of the job

To ensure the safe and appropriate assessment, care and treatment of those brought into the HBPoS.

To liaise with a range of professionals and external agencies, including police, AMHPs, pharmacy, and medical colleagues, to facilitate timely assessment.

To understand the mental health act and make decisions in line with trust policies regarding medication, seclusion, observation levels and physical health monitoring.

Liaise with patients’ carers, family members and care teams/agencies.

To ensure all clinical and legal procedures and documentation are completed in line with Trust policy and MHA legislation.

Take overview of risk management, assess and monitor patients’ physical and mental health needs, create care plans and ensure patients’ needs are met and their views heard.

Lead and support staff colleagues and facilitate supervision within a supervision system.

Support and work alongside inpatient ward units, mental health liaison, home‑based treatment team, and initial response service when patients are not admitted to the HBPoS suite.

Successful appointment will include training in management of violence and aggression, reducing restrictive practice and managing deteriorating patients.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse Mental Health with experience since qualifying
* On‑going registration with appropriate Professional Body


Knowledge

* Evidence of continued professional development that supports clinical practice
* Demonstrated understanding of mental health conditions and their treatments
* Working knowledge of physical health conditions and complications that can arise for patients experiencing mental ill health


Experience

* Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary team structure
* Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing care needs


Employer certification / accreditation badges

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
