Offer description

We are looking for two highly motivated research data analysts to join our rapidly expanding Data & AI Research Unit at UHS, working on NHS data research within the R&D department. These roles support the Southampton Emerging Therapies and Technologies (SETT) Centre and aim to scale data research regionally.

About the Team

The SETT Data & AI Research Unit is the hospital's data science arm, supporting clinical research through scalable analytical and ML pipelines. We are a collaborative team dedicated to unlocking clinical data to improve patient outcomes and contribute to innovation projects in health data research. The role involves building relationships with clinicians, academics, and partners within UHS, NHS, and university networks. We seek creative, self-starting analysts proficient in SQL and Python, eager to shape the future of data-driven healthcare.

The team is also part of the Wessex SDE programme, a national initiative to enhance NHS data access and security. Our collaborations range from national research efforts to developing new data analytics tools and addressing operational challenges like patient flow using machine learning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop automated SQL pipelines for research datasets, from cohort identification to data transformation and standardisation.
2. Support research capacity expansion within the hospital and region.
3. Contribute to the NHS Wessex Secure Data Environment programme by linking regional care data.
4. Collaborate with healthcare practitioners, academics, and operational teams.
5. Assist in developing innovative data research tools and support long-term team goals.

Candidate Skills & Experience

* Degree in a numerate or scientific discipline with analytical problem-solving experience.
* Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working with large clinical or commercial databases.
* At least two years' experience in a statistical, research, or analytical role, including handling sensitive data.
* Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, translating technical concepts for non-technical colleagues.
* Self-motivated, able to independently manage projects from start to finish.
* Experience in client-facing roles with strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
* Interest in developing skills in statistics and machine learning.
* Background in bioscience, clinical, or related fields is advantageous but not essential.
* Knowledge of NHS research is helpful but not required.

Applicants are encouraged to review the attached person specification and job description for detailed criteria. UHS promotes a flexible, inclusive, and diverse working environment committed to equality and anti-discrimination. Southampton offers a vibrant setting for living and working, with excellent transport links and natural surroundings.
