Reports to: Head of Procurement

Our client is a leading organisation within the manufacturing and operations sector, known for their strong supplier partnerships and commitment to operational excellence. They are seeking a proactive and driven Materials and Supply Chain Planner to join their procurement team.

This is a key, hands‑on role that ensures the smooth, cost‑effective, and timely supply of bulk oils across two sites. You will be the central link between suppliers, hauliers, production, planning, and senior leadership, making a real impact on performance, supply security, and commercial success.

The Role

As Materials and Supply Chain Planner, you will take the lead in managing and developing strong, collaborative relationships with direct material suppliers. You’ll work closely with the scheduling team, ensuring accurate planning, timely call‑offs, and seamless contract execution.

This role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape processes, support a small team, and act as a trusted deputy to the Head of Procurement when required.

Key Responsibilities

* Build strong, proactive relationships with all bulk oil suppliers through regular communication.
* Support, train, and provide holiday cover for the Bulk Oil Scheduling team.
* Maintain accurate SOPs, planning sheets, delivery uploads, and weekly contract balance reports.
* Manage call‑offs based on contract positions, pricing, and forecasts to ensure smooth contract execution.
* Identify risks or issues early and work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve them.
* Verify 3rd‑party toll‑packed volumes and ensure weekly capacity is balanced.
* Lead weekly Teams calls with suppliers to review volumes, forecasts, and performance.
* Resolve paperwork, invoicing, and demurrage issues promptly.
* Act as key point of contact between suppliers, hauliers, production, planning, and technical teams.
* Obtain quotes for new lanes/routes and support procurement decisions.
* Provide insights and monthly KPI reports to management.
* Act as backup to the Head of Procurement when required.

About You

You will thrive in this role if you are a confident communicator with strong organisational and problem‑solving skills. You enjoy building relationships, understand supply chain dynamics, and can make informed decisions under pressure, with experience of working in a fast‑paced and demanding environment.

Key Skills & Attributes:

* Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
* Strong organisational ability with high attention to detail.
* Experienced in supporting or managing small teams, providing daily guidance and support.
* Comfortable interacting with managers across multiple business functions.
* Strong Excel and systems ability (advanced)
* Able to think quickly, manage issues proactively, and make decisions under pressure.
* Capable of supporting management activities such as interviews or disciplinaries where needed.

Why Join Our Client?

* A pivotal role within a highly supportive and collaborative procurement team.
* Real responsibility, autonomy, and the ability to shape supplier performance and operational efficiency.
* Opportunity for career growth, including acting as backup to the Head of Procurement.
* A varied, dynamic environment where no two days are the same.
