An exciting opportunity has arisen at QVH as a Hand Fellow in Plastic Surgery. This role offers the chance to develop and enhance your skills, with service commitments that include audit and research opportunities.
The Hand Unit at QVH is recognised both regionally and nationally for its excellent high‑quality service covering a range of elective conditions such as congenital hand anomalies; rheumatoid and osteoarthritis joint replacements/reconstructions; wrist surgery for arthritis and instability; compression neuropathies; post‑trauma reconstruction; and non‑operative or minimally invasive techniques such as collagenase and fasciotomies. The Hand trauma service treats around 6,000 cases per annum in two dedicated theatres and accounts for approximately half of all hand surgery within the unit.
The Fellow will assist Consultants in the operating theatre, undertake emergency surgery personally with supervision when appropriate, and assist in elective and emergency hand‑surgery lists to develop experience and confidence in core procedures. The role includes exposure to more complex cases such as wrist surgery (including arthroscopy), microsurgery, and congenital upper‑limb surgery. The Fellow is responsible for effective communication within the Plastic Surgery service, keeping Consultants and Senior Nursing staff informed of the clinical management of all patients with plastic surgery input. A teaching and research climate is available, encouraging participation and potential academic development.
