The Vacancy
This post is fixed term between May and October 2026.
Farm
Require seasonal workers to look after fruit maintenance, tunnel building and potato harvest at the end of employment.
Glasshouse
The Glasshouse budget includes an element for the funding of seasonal workers for thirteen weeks each. The seasonal staff are recruited to assist permanent staff in the lesser-skilled tasks. Examples include watering duties, weeding the pots in outdoor areas, tunnel construction and repair where many pairs of hands are needed, compost mixing to meet the increased demand for plants that occurs each summer and tying-up plants to canes as they grow larger during the summer. Time spent watering doubles during the summer months. Seasonal labour covers delivery of normal service to scientific staff whilst permanent staff take annual leave. It would not be possible to deliver a normal level of service without seasonal staff during the summer
Main Duties of Postholder
* Watering duties, weeding pots, tunnel construction & repair, compost mixing, tying up plants (glasshouse)
* Fruit maintenance, tunnel building and potato harvest at end of employment (farm)
