An exciting opportunity has arisen within the speciality medicine directorate for any qualified applicants to becomeC5 Ward’s practice development nurse on a permanent basis.
It is a 27 bedded ward situated in the newly built Louisa Martindale Building specialising in Diabetes, Endocrine, and Acute Medicine.
This post would suit a dynamic individual with good leadership and excellent communication skills to facilitate with mentoring and supporting new and existing staff through education and clinical skills-based training, empowering them to enhance their professional development. They can also assist in the development of new learning materials and ongoing review of existing resources to ensure they meet the required learning outcomes.
You will be supported within your role by the ward manager and clinical matron.A bespoke induction programme will be provided as well.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.
Main duties of the job
·Working in close partnership with the Ward Leader and Speciality Medicine band 7 Practice Nurse Educator based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital of the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) in order to promote good working relationships and effective clinical care.
·To work as part of a team under the direction of the Ward Leader, Practice Nurse Educator and the trust lead for education & Development.
·To design, deliver and evaluate orientation & competency programme for staff nurses on C5 Acute Medical and Endocrine Ward.
·Facilitation of education and training for all staff members

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To identify and promote evidence based nursing practice within theAcute Medical and Endocrine Ward, through the implementation and facilitation of clinically based teaching / education, to ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently.
Lead on orientation and competency programmes, a development programme for new nurses, incorporating theoretical teaching, clinical skills assessment & formulation of personal development plans. Facilitates the professional development and education of all members of staff in a positive learning environment. The post holder works closely with the RSCH Speciality MedicinePractice Nurse Educator and university lecturers on pathway courses at the University of Brighton, ensuring links between theory and practice are securely comprehended and implemented. As educator, the post holder will provide advice and guidance to other personnel, will undertake audit and assist with the development of professional policies, standards & best practice guidelines. The role also involves representing the Trust at local level. The post holder works without direct supervision.

Qualifications / Experience
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK)
2. Mentorship module / or similar/ i.e. NMC Supervisor/Assessor (ENB 998)
3. Evidence of continuing professional development
4. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills and high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
5. Evidence of professional development through short courses, academic study at a minimum of post-registration level
6. Qualification in teaching and assessing
7. Extensive varied experience in nursing with management experience.
Desirable criteria
8. Module in Diabetes or Care of the Acutely Ill Adult
9. Post Graduate Certificate in Health & Social care Education (PGCHSCE) or willing to work towards one
10. Experience gained in more than one specialist medical care area
11. Leadership Qualification
