We are recruiting on behalf of of one schools in the Llandilo SA19 area, a specialist centre in Carmarthenshire, for an empathetic and committed Autism Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. About Canolfan Cothi: This purpose-built facility caters for up to 35 pupils aged 11–19, all of whom have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Some learners have severe or profound learning difficulties, and the centre provides a highly supportive and structured environment that focuses on communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing. About the Role: As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to provide one-to-one and small-group support. Your role will involve helping pupils to access learning, manage their emotions, and develop essential life skills. Key Responsibilities: Supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs across KS3–KS5 Assisting with learning activities and tailored interventions Using specialist strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, sensory tools) Encouraging social interaction and emotional regulation Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents The Ideal Candidate: Experience working with children or young people with ASD (in education, care or similar settings) Patient, compassionate, and resilient approach Understanding of communication difficulties and sensory needs Ability to build trusting relationships and support positive behaviour Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, Autism Awareness) are desirable but not essential What the School Offers: A welcoming, specialist environment with high staff-to-pupil ratios Ongoing training and development in SEN strategies Opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives Supportive team culture and long-term career potential Ready to take the next step in your SEN support career?
