2. Building positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, supported, and understood
3. Supporting pupils in managing emotions, behaviour, and social interactions
4. Assisting in the delivery of tailored learning activities, adapted to meet individual needs
5. Promoting positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques in line with school policies
6. Encouraging engagement in lessons and developing pupils’ confidence and self-esteem
7. Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours, using calm and consistent approaches
8. Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to support pupil progress
9. Assisting with the implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) where required
10. Supporting pupils during transitions, break times, and less structured parts of the school day

This role requires patience, empathy, and consistency, and is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable learners.

The Settings

You may work in a variety of settings, including:

11. Mainstream schools with specialist SEMH provisions
12. Alternative provisions
13. Specialist settings designed to support pupils with complex needs

Each setting offers a unique and rewarding environment where you can make a genuine impact.

16. Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
17. Can build rapport and maintain professional boundaries
18. Are proactive, adaptable, and able to think on their feet
