We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Band 5 nurse for the (inflammatory bowel disease) IBD Infusion Unit at Guys and St Thomas's hospital.
The IBD nurses work cross-site at Guys & St Thomas’ hospital sites to provide excellent care to our patients with a variety of inflammatory bowel disease conditions. The Band 5 Staff nurse will work within the nursing team and work amongst all specialities to provide a high standard of care for our outpatient and day case patients. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, as well as a passion for respiratory nursing. The successful candidate will be flexible, motivated, knowledgeable and confident to work as part of a small nursing team. You will contribute towards the efficient operation of the clinics, and be open to change as the service continues to grow and develop.

Main duties of the job
A full-time basis is essential to ensure consistent and dedicated nursing expertise capable of managing the full clinic capacity from Monday to Friday. This enables timely administration of biologic therapies, effective monitoring and management of infusion reactions, and continuity of care, which are critical for positive patient outcomes and experience, maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios, reduces waiting times, and prevents service delays or backlogs. Additionally, having a specialist nurse consistently present supports team efficiency, boosts staff morale, and ensures adherence to clinical guidelines.
The specialist knowledge and skills require for the IBD Infusion Staff Nurse role in-depth understanding of IBD pathophysiology, biologic therapy administration, and complex infusion reaction management. These advanced competencies are essential for safe, effective care and cannot be rapidly acquired without prior experience in an IBD-specific infusion setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Preparing patients to see a member of the multidisciplinary team, performing observations, bloods, and other tests.
2. Administer IV infusions medications within our infusion unit.
3. Ensuring smooth running of the IBD clinics, by working logically and prioritising workload.
4. Supervising junior staff, assisting with training and development, and delegation of tasks.
5. Using your clinical assessment skills to admit patients during pre assessment and recover and discharge patients safely post procedure.
6. Developing and maintaining clinical and managerial skills in an outpatient setting.
7. Cannulation and venepuncture.
8. Acting as link nurse on behalf of the service.
9. Supporting Audits to ensure high level of patient care.
10. Develop the patient experience pathway.

Education/Knowledge

11. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
