Automation Engineer – Shift Based – 2 days/2 nights/4 off plus 5 x 18 day blocks off per year – Deeside / Chester Area – requires PLC experience
£53-60k + Quarterly Bonus Scheme (up to 13% of salary) + 10% Employer Pension Contribution + Private Medical = £65-75k package + salary review in 2026
Samuel Frank is recruiting for an Automation Engineer to join a globally recognised manufacturing company with a large base in the Deeside / Chester area. We’ve successfully introduced two new Automation Engineers to this team over the last 6 months and due to a promotion, we’re now recruiting for a second new addition.
PLC knowledge is a vital requirement – the successful Automation Engineer will be able to connect a laptop, interrogate code, and make modifications to the PLC code.
Key responsibilities of the Automation Engineer include:
* Fault-finding and modifying PLCs (from major manufacturers) – essential
* Understanding relay logic and fault-finding from engineering drawings such as P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control loop diagrams – essential
* Experience with AC or DC inverter drives – fault finding and commissioning
* Instrumentation knowledge, maintaining, and fault-finding control loops
* Regular, specialist training on current and emerging technologies, annual salary review, 10% employer pension contribution, and staff discounts with major UK brands
* The working pattern involves 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off, with 5 x 18-day breaks per year, providing nearly 6 months off annually, ideal for hobbies or projects outside work
* Initial 6 months likely on days; overtime payments of 150 hours at the start of the year; potential work or training during some 18-day breaks, with prior payment
The company's location in the North West is easily accessible from Deeside, Chester, Wrexham, Ellesmere Port, Broughton, Liverpool, Northwich, Runcorn, Widnes, and Warrington.
