Senior Electrical Engineer
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Working within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, you will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
* Develop and deliver safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
* Apply a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Support incident management objectives and provide flexible work arrangements.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671, IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and be registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
This is a hybrid role, and we will allocate a base location near to your home.
