Overview
Thales is recruiting for a Product Safety Manager to lead safety engineering activities for Thales Underwater Systems major projects, including autonomous system developments and future flagship naval programmes. Location: Cheadle, United Kingdom. Thales Underwater Systems covers remotely operated unmanned vehicles for maritime and naval operations and the introduction into service of new sonar capabilities for surface and submarine platforms.
Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of safety engineering activities for UWS projects, ensuring the delivery of all safety artefacts and requirements in a timely manner.
* Act as the main point of contact for Safety Expertise on projects, supporting the Project Design Authority and other engineering functions in their safety-related activities.
* Liaise with the customer representative for all safety-related activities.
* Ensure that the safety management approach for all projects complies with Thales processes, in addition to customer requirements, including Def Stan 00-056 or MIL STD 882.
* Raise any safety concerns about products or the application of policies and processes, and support or lead Product Safety Investigations to resolve these issues.
* Support the UWS Safety Assurance Manager and Safety Authority in the delivery of their duties to ensure that all UWS projects and systems are adequately safe.
Qualifications
* In-depth knowledge of Safety Management Processes and experience delivering Safety Engineering activities.
* Knowledge and experience of formal hazard identification and assessment techniques and IT-based Hazard Log management systems.
* Knowledge of product environmental, material and safety-related legislation, regulation and standards.
* Experience within the Defence Domain and working with associated Defence Standards is desirable, or knowledge of equivalent safety management processes from similar safety-critical domains.
* Experience of Functional and/or Software Safety; knowledge of Def Stan 00-055 or IEC 61508 is desirable, although not required.
* Knowledge of engineering lifecycle management, its requirements and application.
Security Clearance
This role requires SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if you currently hold SC clearance; if not, the successful applicant will need to obtain and maintain SC Clearance. Please see the UK Security Vetting guidelines for details. Typically, eligibility requires residence in the UK for the last five years.
