Offer description

Thinking about starting a career in education but not sure where to begin? This could be your perfect first step.

We’re working with a wonderful specialist school in Durham that supports children with a range of additional needs. They’re looking for someone kind, patient and eager to learn, rather than someone with years of experience. If you bring the right attitude, they’ll show you the ropes.

What you’ll be doing

1. Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs in a calm, structured setting

2. Helping with communication, emotional regulation and sensory activities

3. Working closely with teachers and experienced support staff who’ll guide you day to day

4. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils who rely on consistency and warmth

5. Making school feel safe, predictable and positive for every child you work with

No experience? No problem. You just need…

6. A genuine interest in working with children with additional needs

7. A positive, steady approach and a willingness to get stuck in

8. Good communication skills and a kind, patient nature

9. Reliability and a sense of humour, especially when the day gets messy

10. Openness to training, coaching and new strategies

What you’ll get from Protocol Education

11. Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella deductions

12. FREE access to our online CPD academy, perfect for trainees

13. A consultant who’ll guide you through each step and check in regularly

14. Opportunities to grow your confidence and progress in specialist education

15. Long-term roles that give you proper structure and a chance to build skills

This is a brilliant chance to start a meaningful career in SEND, even if you’ve never worked in a school before. If you’re ready to learn, we’re ready to support you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
