Job: 1150420 – In‑house Legal Counsel
The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established over 50 years ago. We provide high‑quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT.
Your Impact
* Draft, review, negotiate legal agreements (leases, service, funding) ensuring compliance and managing risk.
* Advise on corporate governance and support compliance with legislative and funding requirements.
* Assist the Company Secretary with governance registers, board and committee meetings, and director induction.
* Provide legal advice on updating company policies, procedures and guidelines to meet relevant laws.
* Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure organisational compliance.
* Uphold ALS values, EEO and WHS policies in all work practices.
Your Story & Strengths
* Legal qualifications with a current NSW Practicing Certificate and experience in legal, governance or compliance roles.
* Experience in corporate, commercial or property law (highly desirable).
* Strong understanding of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and ACNC regulatory requirements.
* Proven ability to provide practical legal advice with strong drafting and communication skills.
* Highly developed problem‑solving, analytical, administrative and organisational skills; able to work autonomously.
* Knowledge of and respect for the cultural and social needs of First Nations people in service delivery.
* Desirable: experience in governance, risk, funding agreements, business improvements or identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
