We're looking for a Foundation DevOps Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.


As our Foundation DevOps Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Your world of expertise

You will be a key part of the team responsible for developing & implementing solutions that enable the orchestration of data, both internally and externally, across the Met Office. Your solutions will be implemented alongside existing Data Orchestration solutions providing a strong foundation of services for the Met Office, providing for a wide range of customers.

Your key duties

* Develop software and maintain legacy code, to meet user needs
* Follow best practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines
* Ensure documentation is accessible, usable and accurate.
* Work within a cross-functional team to achieve the project deliverables
* You'll be the sort of person that is passionate about technology, loves solving problems and is enthusiastic to grow your technical skills.
* Support the team in defining and developing the work activities that facilitate the continuous improvement and development of capability.
* Contribute towards delivering/maintaining DevOps best practice and tooling in support of lifecycle, automated testing and continuous deployment.
* Contribute to the development of secure and robust re-usable code / tools.

As our Foundation DevOps Engineer, your total reward package will be up to £35,994 annually, which includes:

* £26,954 base pay
* An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
* Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay
* Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

1. Able to write maintainable code, or support legacy code, with the enthusiasm to learn more as required. (We keep evolving)
2. Knowledge of using Amazon AWS services including Lambda, VPC (networking) and EC2.
3. Good problem-solving and prioritisation abilities in using and understanding complex technical environments. (We're experts by nature)
4. Able to work with cross skilled teams and communicate effectively to a technical and non-technical audience. (We're experts by nature)
5. Working as part of an Agile team, with experience in using agile processes to enhance delivery. (We're better together)
