The Specialty Doctor in Oral Surgery who will work under the direction of the consultants in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery. There will be daily contact with a multidisciplinary range of staff based on the ward, in the Emergency Department, in operating theatres, Outpatients, from pharmacy and administrative staff. Main duties of the job The post will provide exposure to a broad range of General & Local Anaesthetic Oral & maxillofacial surgery (elective inpatient and Day Case) plus minor operative procedures. There will be Hospital Consultation clinics for new and review patients under the supervision of either a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial or Oral Surgeon. The individual will be responsible for the assessment of referrals from the Accident & Emergency Department. There are combined Oral & Maxillofacial / Orthodontic clinics and combined Oral & Maxillofacial / ENT / Head & Neck Oncology clinics held. The department also works very closely with the Dermatology Department in the management of skin cancers and the consultants are core members of the skin cancer MDT. Person Specification Qualifications • Full GDC Registration MFDS Qualified Experience/Knowledge & Skills Essential • A minimum of 2 years experience at Senior House Officer level within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Desirable • A specific interest in facial trauma, membership of relevant organisations • Experience of having worked at middle grade level in an Acute Oral & Maxillofacial setting. • ATLS and ALS certified. Training • 3 Years in a recognised training post (DF, DCT1, DCT2 etc). Teaching Skills • Keen interest in learning & teaching Clinical Ability • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and awareness to fully investigate problems. • Capable of conducting operative procedures. Audit/Research/Governance Essential • Keen interest in Audit & Research • Understand the principles and relevance of clinical research • Is up to date and fit to practice safely and is aware of own training needs. • Evidence of personal involvement in clinical governance including clinical audit or significant event analysis Desirable • Publications • Enthusiasm for participation in research
