Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology (Urological)

Job Summary
The post holder will join a large team of consultants, specialist registrars, specialty doctors, core medical, F2 and GP resident doctors and advanced nurse practitioners and will contribute to outpatient and inpatient clinical care, including the Acute Oncology Service at VCC and providing advice to Health Board colleagues when on call, and the Assessment Unit. The role includes a 24‑hour on‑call rota (pro‑rated). Velindre University NHS Trust provides mentoring, a staff clinical psychologist and an Employee Assistance Programme.
Main Duties
* Scheduled care clinics (face to face, virtual) – 3.4 h
* MDMs – 1.1 h
* Acute oncology – 1.0 h
* Clinic admin – 1.0 h
* Travel time – 0.25 h
* On call and ward round (monthly average approx. 1:30) – 0.25 h
* Total direct clinical care – 7.0 h per week
* Teaching, research, development – 3.0 h
* Overall total – 10 h per week
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term post.

Person Specification
* Essential Qualifications
o GMC specialist register with one of the following:
+ CCT within 6 months of interview
+ CESR
+ European Community Rights
* Desirable Qualifications
o Research degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
* Essential Experience
o Site specialist interest in urological cancers
o Experience of MDT decision making
o Clinical trial experience in urological cancer
o Acute oncology on call experience (junior level, supervised)
o Teaching experience
* Desirable Experience
o Recent site specialist interest including prostate brachytherapy and penile cancer
o Acute oncology service experience (senior level)
o Experience of recruitment to clinical trials
o Interest in and experience in palliative radiotherapy
