Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Akamai Security Engineer to support the configuration, deployment, and ongoing management of Akamai security solutions across the client's web and API platforms. This role is critical in ensuring our digital services are secure, resilient, and optimised for high performance. You will collaborate closely with security, infrastructure, and application engineering teams to enhance our web security posture and streamline operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Configure, maintain, and optimise Akamai security products including Kona Site Defender (KSD), Web Application Firewall (WAF), and Bot Manager.
* Support the implementation of security policies, rulesets, and traffic‑routing configurations across Akamai properties.
* Monitor web traffic and assist with identifying threats, anomalies, and potential security incidents.
* Tune WAF and bot protection rules to minimise false positives and maximise detection and mitigation effectiveness.
* Assist with CDN configuration, caching strategies, and performance optimisation activities.
* Manage digital certificates, edge redirects, property configurations, and Akamai console changes.
* Work closely with application and platform teams to ensure secure, compliant, and best‑practice‑aligned deployments.
* Produce and maintain documentation related to Akamai operations, processes, and configurations.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of web security operations and automation capabilities.
Required Skills and Experience
* Practical experience with Akamai technologies including KSD, WAF, CDN, and related components.
* Strong understanding of web security principles including OWASP Top 10, DDoS mitigation, and bot management.
* Working knowledge of HTTP/S, DNS, TLS, caching behaviours, and content delivery networks.
* Basic scripting or automation experience using Python, Shell, or Akamai APIs.
* Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and incident‑response skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
* Akamai Certified Expert (ACE) or other Akamai accreditations.
* Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
* Exposure to DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
* Familiarity with SIEM, monitoring, or logging tools.
