Job Description:

About the Role

The Rakyan lab’s research focuses on the genetic and epigenetic regulation of mammalian Ribosomal DNA (rDNA), using cutting-edge molecular biology tools and high-level computational approaches to investigate the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms involved in rDNA biology. The research aims to understand how genetic variation within rDNA influences disease development, including cancer, and to explore the evolutionary history of rDNA variation through large-scale integrative analyses of human whole-genome sequencing datasets.

About You

The successful candidate will have a PhD in computational biology or bioinformatics, with several years of postdoctoral experience in analysis of repetitive regions. Expertise in R, Python, Java, Matlab, C, MySQL, and experience in GWAS, whole genome sequencing, epigenomic, and transcriptomic analyses are essential. Evidence of these skills should be demonstrated through first-author publications. The role also involves supervising junior lab members and contributing to grant writing.

About the Institute

The Blizard Institute, established in 2003, is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at QMUL, supporting research, teaching, and clinical services with approximately 350 staff and 750 postgraduate students.

About Queen Mary

Queen Mary University of London values diversity and inclusion, fostering social justice and academic excellence. The university offers competitive salaries, a comprehensive benefits package, flexible working, and is committed to a diverse and inclusive community, providing reasonable adjustments for candidates with disabilities and considering flexible work arrangements.
