The role
As a Principal Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you lead the design and delivery of complex electrical, control and instrumentation systems that sit at the heart of critical nuclear programmes. This is a high‑impact role where your expertise directly supports the United Kingdom’s energy security and defence capability, while setting technical direction across multi‑discipline project team
Day-to-day, you’ll be
1. Leading the delivery of electrical, control and instrumentation engineering work packages across complex nuclear projects
2. Managing and mentoring engineers, providing technical oversight and ensuring quality, safety and regulatory compliance
3. Producing and approving key engineering deliverables including control philosophies, requirements specifications, network architectures and software management plans
4. Working closely with planners, project managers, safety specialists, customers and regulators to align engineering outputs with programme milestones
5. Supporting hazard studies, design risk assessments and design assurance activities
This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week. Hybrid working patterns are available, with three days on site. You will be based at any of our main UK locations, including Glasgow, Leicester, Bristol, Newbury, Warrington.
Essential experience of the Principal Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer:
6. Significant experience delivering electrical, control and instrumentation engineering within regulated environments
7. Proven background working to nuclear, defence or comparable industry standards
8. Experience leading complex control systems, automation or information management solutions across the project lifecycle
9. Demonstrable ability to manage technical interfaces, stakeholders and engineering teams
10. Strong understanding of safety, quality and compliance within high‑hazard industries
Qualifications for the Principal Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer:
11. Degree‑qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline
12. Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership is advantageous
Security Clearance
