Contract Type: Full-time

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is working in close partnership with a welcoming primary SEN school in the Bolton area that specialises in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) alongside moderate additional needs such as ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and speech and language needs.

This is a highly rewarding pastoral role where understanding autism, routine, communication, and emotional regulation is central to everyday practice. The school provides a calm, structured, and child‑centred environment, and is seeking a Pastoral Support Worker who can help pupils feel safe, understood, and supported throughout their school day.

-----------------------------------

The Role

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with ASC to manage their emotions, behaviour, and social interactions. Your responsibilities will include:

* Providing 1:1 and small‑group pastoral support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition
* Supporting children with emotional regulation, anxiety, and behaviours linked to sensory overload or communication difficulties
* Using autism‑informed approaches, visual supports, and consistent routines to support learning and wellbeing
* Assisting children during moments of distress using calm, trauma‑informed and de‑escalation strategies
* Encouraging positive communication, social skills, and independence
* Observing, recording, and sharing information around triggers, progress, and successful strategies
-----------------------------------

Requirements

We are looking for a patient, compassionate, and reliable individual who understands the importance of consistency and empathy when supporting children with ASC. Ideally, you will have:

* Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition, particularly in a primary or SEN setting
* A strong understanding of sensory needs, communication differences, and emotional regulation
* A calm, nurturing approach and the ability to build trusting, secure relationships
* Confidence supporting pupils with moderate SEN, including SEMH needs
* Willingness and confidence to support personal care when required
* Strong communication skills and a team‑focused attitude

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service is required (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel). Experience in SEN education, care, autism support, youth work, or therapeutic settings is highly valued but not essential.
