Senior Operations Manager
Location: Primarily remote, with engagement with NICRF, iREACH Health and Belfast Health and Social Care Trust
Hours: hours per week ( WTE - 3 days)
Pay Rate: £ per hour
Role Overview
An experienced Senior Operations Manager is required to support the development and expansion of commercial clinical trial activity within the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Facility (NICRF) and associated research infrastructure.
This time-limited assignment will provide specialist expertise to develop operational and financial frameworks for commercial trials, strengthen engagement with industry sponsors and CROs, and support improved processes for the costing, set-up, and delivery of industry-sponsored studies.
The role will work closely with the NICRF and iREACH Health leadership teams, Trust research teams, and finance colleagues to support sustainable growth in commercial clinical research activity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the development of operational approaches to support commercial clinical trial activity.
2. Develop and refine trial costing models, budgeting frameworks, and financial processes for industry-sponsored studies.
3. Support engagement with industry sponsors, CROs, and research partners to identify commercial trial opportunities.
4. Work with research delivery teams to improve commercial study start-up timelines and operational processes.
5. Provide expert advice on commercial trial negotiation, costing and feasibility.
6. Support the development of sustainable commercial research income streams within the research facility.
7. Provide strategic advice on operational readiness to support increased commercial trial throughput.
Essential Experience
8. Significant senior operational experience in clinical research delivery or research management.
9. Demonstrable experience working with commercial clinical trials and industry-sponsored research.
10. Experience developing clinical trial costing frameworks and financial models.
11. Strong understanding of UK clinical research governance, regulatory requirements and study start-up processes.
12. Experience working across academic, NHS and industry partnerships.
Assignment Context
This is a time-limited strategic assignment (9 months) designed to support the development of sustainable operational and financial frameworks for commercial clinical trials across NICRF and associated research infrastructure. The role requires rapid mobilisation of experienced expertise, which is not currently available within the existing workforce.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- At least 1 year's experience in a senior role with responsibility for managing
- Have at least two years' experience managing people.
- Demonstrate evidence of personally managing and leading change within an organisation. Have worked with a range of stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. Have excellent communication skills to meet the needs of the post in full. Demonstrate high level organisational skills with the ability to work to demanding and competing timescales in the implementation, delivery and support of a complex service and customer management environment. Strong competency in using desktop IT Microsoft Office suite of programmes, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, for analysis, presentation of data and creating reports.
