Tesco Shift Leader - Days - Chelmsford Marsham Arms Express
Our Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, with the option to work fewer hours down to 12. We will schedule your contracted hours within designated availability windows and provide at least 3 weeks’ notice of shifts. Flexibility is supported for our colleagues.
Availability windows: Days (Sun–Sat) 14:00‑23:00. (Simplified availability; candidates should confirm their full availability).

Responsibilities
* Work in a fast‑paced retail environment with a wide variety of products.
* Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
* Be present for customers, listening to them and ensuring they leave the store with what they came for.
* Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback to the team.
* Guide and support colleagues in‑store, ensuring a safe work and shopping environment.
* Maintain awareness of store performance and assist managers in delivering actions to improve operations.
* Lead by example, setting a great standard for colleagues.
* Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience for customers.
* Supporting colleagues, ensuring they deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks.
* Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, ensuring all decisions made are right for everyones safety.
* Being the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day‑to‑day queries.
* Keeping the store always clean, tidy, and well‑presented.
* Supporting managers with seasonal, community and charity events.
* Contributing to a great team atmosphere, inclusive of everyone.
* Providing great customer service by listening to customers and putting them first.
* Keeping the team informed and up to speed on communications, changes, or updates.
* Staying knowledgeable about store performance and looking for ways to improve and simplify operations.
* Coordinating store improvements and removing obstacles that might hinder service.
* Following health and safety routines and procedures, ensuring colleagues do the same.
* Recognising and celebrating colleagues within the team who provide great service.
Qualifications
* Ability to be a great role model, consistently delivering thoughtful customer service.
* Strong relationship building with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive team atmosphere.
* Clear communication skills, comfortable using multiple methods to keep the team informed.
* Confidence in leading the store in the absence of a manager.
* Good decision‑making, flexibility, and comfort with change to ensure everything is right for customers and colleagues.
* Motivational skills to inspire the team to exceed expectations.
* Curiosity and continuous pursuit of ideas to better serve customers, communities and the planet.
* Minimum 18 years of age.
