Overview
The Education Mental Health Professional - Qualified role is part of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in Nottingham City. MHST provides early intervention and preventative support for children and young people and their families, addressing anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties. The service runs workshops for groups of children in educational settings on topics such as transition, resilience, wellbeing, worry and emotions through puberty, and related themes.
MHST is expanding to work with more educational settings. The expansion is funded through NHS England and Health Education England as part of a national initiative. We work in partnership with schools and other wellbeing services to develop a Whole School Approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Job Responsibilities
* Work with schools remotely and face-to-face to deliver low-level Guided Self Help to young people and families across various educational settings, including remote working from home and community buildings.
* Be a member of the Mental Health in Schools Team, delivering the whole school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing for children and young people.
* Provide a range of services to improve access to mental health support and services, deliver training/workshops for schools and parents, provide consultation to schools on mental health and wellbeing, and deliver individual and group interventions for children and young people experiencing difficulties with managing emotions.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Undergraduate degree in Psychology or related subject.
* Successful completion of the HEE commissioned 1-year Education Mental Health Practitioner postgraduate diploma and/or successful completion of the Certificate in Children’s Wellbeing Practice (CWP), with post-qualification experience as a CWP and experience of working in schools.
Experience
* Experience of working with children and young people, their families and others in educational and health settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.
* Experience of delivering specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families (e.g. Guided Self Help, CBT, parent work).
* Experience of assessing and meeting the communication needs of schools to deliver psycho-education on mental health or emotional wellbeing to different groups including parents, teaching staff and young people.
* Experience of liaising and working effectively with the wider network around the child including educational, social care, family and health.
* Experience of adapting resources to be able to deliver online/ via phone/ Google Classroom etc.
* Experience of working with culturally diverse populations and adapting services to improve access.
