The Vetting Team work within the Cabinet Office Security Team and are responsible for overseeing the administration, assessment, delivery and decision making on all vetting casework for the Cabinet Office, No10 and Cabinet Office Arms Length Bodies. This dynamic team has established a reputation for excellence and high standards while delivering this critical function for the Cabinet Office. No two days are ever the same in the vetting world and the successful applicant will have a great opportunity to develop their knowledge of Vetting, insider risk and decision making. Working closely with the wider Security Team and Senior Security Advisor, the post holder will get the opportunity to build their knowledge and understanding of protective security principles. This high performing team is looking to recruit an outstanding Executive Officer who will report to the Vetting Manager. The post holder will work on a range of tasks such as case assessment, sponsoring new applications, completing clearances, liaising with applicants and sponsors, decision making, liaison with other government departments and vetting authorities, along with a variety of other tasks. Day-to-day the post holder will be responsible for managing vetting requests from Cabinet Office staff, for both new applications and renewals, applying a set of criteria to confirm that requests are appropriate and then initiating them with UK Security Vetting (UKSV). They will be proactive in engaging with staff when there are particular aftercare or other actions needed for individuals to maintain their current level of clearance. Other tasks will include liaising with other government departments to help transfer existing clearances in or out. This aspect of vetting can be particularly complicated and on occasions requires an investigative, methodical and tenacious approach. The post holder will have an eye for detail, be able to analyse information and apply effective decision making to their duties. Person specification The ideal candidate will keep exceptionally high standards in areas such as delivery, stakeholder management, working in a team environment, customer service and attention to detail. Prior experience of working with sensitive or personal material, whether in a security, HR or other business area is desirable but not essential. Vetting is sensitive work and the risks of a mistake can be damaging to the organisation, either reputationally or to the information we hold. Therefore demonstrable experience requiring high levels of discretion and attention to detail in the information you are working with would be preferable. The post holder will be used to working effectively at pace and engaging directly with a wide variety of customers. Additional information: A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
