Job Summary
Consultant Physician in Elderly Medicine at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. Senior clinical role with full responsibilities over Elderly Care wards and Acute Frailty services.
Salary
£109,725 - £145,478 per annum (pro rata).
Responsibilities
* Manage the specialty Elderly Care ward (12‑15 patients) and patients admitted under your care while on call for Acute Frailty (average 15‑20 per call).
* Stream patients to the Frailty Short Stay Unit (<48 h discharge) or one of the five Frailty Base wards for longer admissions.
* Provide on‑call service: 2 weeks of weekday on‑call and 2 weekends on‑call in a 12‑week block, paired with another consultant.
* Participate in the Acute Frailty on‑call service and Integrated Locality Review meetings (four MDT meetings per week).
* Lead and mentor junior doctors and undergraduates; conduct teaching and support professional development.
* Engage in clinical audit, research, and governance programmes within the department.
* Operate specialist clinics (Falls, Parkinson’s disease, Movement Disorder, etc.) as agreed with departmental consultants.
* Deliver outpatient workload: new and follow‑up referrals for complex comorbidities, typically 2‑4 new and an equal number of follow‑ups per clinic.
* Develop new models of care for frail elderly people in the community and support route‑to‑certainty for CESR candidates.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
* MRCP.
* On the specialist register for Elderly Care and General Medicine or within 6 months of completing CCT/CESR.
* Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent) desirable but not essential.
Experience (Essential)
* General training in Geriatric Medicine to specialist level or equivalent.
* Experience teaching doctors‑in‑training and undergraduates.
* Experience in clinical audit.
* Leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role of consultant.
