Job Summary Team Leader – Barrier Production Location: Margate, Kent | Full time (35 Hrs) This is a leadership role, not just a technical one. We are looking for a strong people leader to lead a team within a high‑standard barrier rodent model production environment. You don’t need to arrive as the finished technical expert. Technical skills can be taught. What matters most is how you lead, support, challenge and develop others. Team Leader - Animal Care What you’ll do Lead, motivate and develop a team of animal technicians Set clear standards of behaviour, performance and accountability Create a positive, inclusive and psychologically safe team culture Address issues early, fairly and constructively Coordinate work and resources to meet production and welfare standards Work collaboratively with peer leaders and managers (some additional hours and weekend/bank holiday working required on a rota basis) Plan and allocate daily and weekly work to ensure production schedules are met Monitor workload, staffing and training needs, adjusting plans as required Maintain oversight of barrier practices, routine procedures and cleanliness standards Ensure work is completed in line with training documentation, regulatory expectations and internal quality standards Act as the first point of escalation for operational, welfare or people issues within the team Support audits, inspections and continuous improvement activities Routinely spend the working day in the barrier facility, visible and engaged and actively participating with the team on the floor What we’re looking for Experience leading or influencing people in an operational, regulated or production environment Confidence to have honest conversations and make fair decisions Calm, consistent leadership – especially under pressure A genuine interest in developing others, not just managing tasks Strong communication, integrity and self‑awareness (Experience in laboratory, animal care or technical production environments is helpful, but not essential.)
