Clinical Research Fellow in Haematological- Lymphoid Malignancies
Applications are invited to apply for this opportunity to work within a large, dynamic trials unit looking after haematology patients. It is a 3-year fixed term post in the Haematology Trials Unit at the Department of Oncology and Haematology. The post holder will develop advanced specialist experience in a specific disease site with a focus on advanced cellular and molecular therapies. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients having advanced medicinal therapies, including cellular and complex advanced therapy combinations. Essential experience in either haematology or oncology includes satisfactory clinical specialty training to a senior level, a completed higher research degree (PhD/DPhil) and experience of the management of acute complications of advanced treatments. Job responsibilities
* Inpatient and outpatient care of haematological cancer patients being treated as part of trials performed on the Haematology Trials Unit and selected trials run through the late phase trials team.
* In close collaboration with a dedicated senior clinical-academic mentor, the Advanced Fellow will select a major research project question lasting two years. This may include new clinical trial design and development, data analysis of a large database, or pursuing a translational project with clinical outcomes in collaboration with a research laboratory or industry. The fellow will present this proposal early in the post to the senior panel, including external advisors and industry colleagues for peer review and evaluation. In addition, smaller projects with discrete and more rapid outcomes may be completed (e.g., descriptive clinical papers). All research findings will be communicated at national and international conferences and in publications.
* It is expected that Fellows will be outstanding clinicians and fully contribute to clinical care, clinical decision making, team-based activity and clinical leadership. A fixed timetable of activity will be developed that includes multi-disciplinary meetings and clinical practice. Fellows will participate in general oncology and haematology acute services, such as management of acute emergencies and complications from treatment. These will be limited and on a rotational basis. Experience in service development of advanced therapies will be encouraged as leadership experience is an essential component of the training offered.
