Overview
We are looking to appoint an inspirational leader to manage and develop all aspects of musical activity at the School. This is a key appointment for the School and is expected to be the principal ambassador for all musical activity within the Perse.
A rare opportunity has arisen at The Perse School for a Director of Music. We are looking to appoint an inspirational leader to manage and develop all aspects of musical activity at the School. This is a key appointment for the School and, at its essence, is the expectation to be the principal ambassador for all musical activity within the Perse. The Department is successful and high-achieving - a product of a highly-talented staff team working with ambitious and aspirational pupils. The School's extra-curricular activities, and music in particular, have scored the highest appreciation rates in parental surveys in recent years. The successful candidate will need to command the respect of all departmental stakeholders - a teaching and peripatetic staff team of significant experience, a high-achieving pupil cohort and a supportive and engaged parental body.
The post-holder will need to draw upon and deploy the team effectively and have the skills and judgement to delegate responsibility, combined with the resilience and determination to take personal control of significant projects as appropriate. A sensitivity and regard for the traditions and past achievements of the Department will need to be combined with the vision to seek out new ideas and inspire the confidence of colleagues in pursuing them.
The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.
At The Perse School, we value the well-being of all staff and offer a supportive environment that balances professional ambitions with personal growth, opportunity and work-life balance. The Perse School recognises that an important element in safeguarding our pupils is a robust recruitment process that incorporates measures to deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children, or who are otherwise unsuited to work with them. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including: references from previous employers, a Disclosure and Barring Service check at the enhanced level, as well as eligibility to work in the UK (in compliance with UK immigration regulations). All work carried out at the School on a regular basis amounts to regulated activity. This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
