We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual to join our busy central administration team, putting you at the very heart of the organisation. This is fixed term contract whereby you will be covering maternity leave. You will be joining a lively and friendly team with a varied workload and continual training and development opportunities. This role will combine the elements of both secretarial and administration duties, providing you with the opportunity to make a real difference to patients within our diverse community. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong administrative background who is looking to move into a career within healthcare or someone who is looking to expand their current healthcare administrative experience.


Main duties of the job

The Central Administration team provides the back office support for all practices within Better Health MCR. The work is fast-paced and varied. It is essential that the team can proactively manage the workload as well as continuously prioritise the demands. Your main duties will include a combination of both secretarial and administration tasks (please see the attached job description for full details) to support your colleagues in the central team as well as the wider teams within the organisation. You will be expected to be an active team player but also be comfortable working independently. Communication and accuracy are essential within the role. The work produced will be of a consistently high standard and you will communicate with a large variety of individuals within the practice as well as having contact with patients, when necessary.

We are a friendly, forward-thinking, not-for-profit social enterprise providing primary care medical services in Manchester. We operate three GP practices: The Robert Darbishire Practice in Rusholme Health Centre (which is also head office) and which has a branch at The University of Manchester, Brooklands Medical Practice in Wythenshawe and The Whitswood Practice in Alexandra Park Health Centre. In total we have over 44,000 patients.

Our patients are very diverse and include established communities as well as new communities from all over the world. We have good links with the University and a sizeable student population.

Our staff team of about 120 people has a great mix of skills and experience. We have exciting plans to expand this team even more, to help us further our mission to improve lives.


Job responsibilities

The post is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and will be mostly based at The Robert Darbishire Practice although you will also need to be able to travel to our other sites as needed.

Salary will be in the range £24,638 to £26,648 pro rata (full-time is 37.5 hours), depending on experience. We offer membership of the NHS Pension Scheme and 5.4-6.6 weeks' holiday (depending on NHS service) plus bank holidays (pro rata). (The post is not subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions.)

Person Specification


Qualifications

* General education to GCSE level or equivalent.
* An excellent standard of grammar and spelling in the English language.
* Training or qualifications in customer service, IT or other related areas.


Other

* A commitment to support the delivery of the best possible service to a diverse inner-city population.


Personal Skills and Abilities

* A friendly and approachable manner, with good people skills, showing understanding, care and assertiveness when appropriate.
* The ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both verbal and written) with a wide range of individuals.
* The ability to be well-organised and prioritise work.

Experience

* Administrative or clerical experience.
* Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work.
* The ability to produce accurate and thorough work in a prompt and efficient manner, working to set timescales.
* Experience of using computers, with fast, accurate keyboard skills.
* Experience working within a healthcare setting.
* Experience of dealing with the general public.
* Experience of using audio typing equipment.
* Experience and knowledge of medical terminology.
