Description
Support the production of dynamic and innovative content of the highest editorial and technical quality for Good Morning Britain, with a particular focus on identifying, developing and producing the stories that drive the programme’s agenda each morning. You will be able to work at pace without losing sight of the needs of GMB's audience.
We're looking for strong communicators with the capacity to manage a newsroom of journalists. Being a breakfast show we want people who are able to work unsociable hours.
Working closely with Content Editors, you will play a key role in newsgathering – scanning the morning papers, wires and digital sources to identify the strongest stories for the programme, shaping them into compelling television. You'll be experienced at reacting to breaking news during a live show.
This role requires a journalist with sharp news judgement, strong writing skills and the ability to lead teams in a creative, fast-paced newsroom environment. You will help oversee parts of the programme output, edit video, and write scripts that bring the day’s stories to life for a breakfast audience.
We have a proposed interview schedule of week commencing Monday 20th April.
Key Responsibilities
1. Identify and develop stories for Good Morning Britain, including scanning the morning papers, news wires and online sources to spot stories that will resonate with the programme’s audience
2. Support Content Editors in making key editorial decisions to deliver the right mix of breaking news, agenda-setting stories and lighter content across the programme
3. Write scripts for the programme including headlines, lead-ins, trails, underlays and other broadcast copy, working closely with graphics teams to ensure strong visual storytelling
4. Take editorial responsibility for sections of the programme, shaping content from idea to transmission
5. Help lead a team of producers, delegating tasks and overseeing their work to ensure stories are delivered to time and to the highest editorial standards
6. Exercise strong editorial judgement when producing stories, including decisions on news values, legal considerations, taste and decency
7. Edit video to a high broadcast standard, ensuring stories are visually engaging and editorially sharp
8. Occasionally step up to the role of Content Editor when required
9. Work at pace in a dynamic national and international newsroom
10. Ensure the programme reflects the diversity of our audience and the wider UK

11. A creative and dynamic newsroom leader with strong organisational skills
12. A calm, decisive operator able to thrive in a fast-moving live news environment
13. Excellent news judgement and a strong understanding of the Good Morning Britain editorial agenda
14. A strong writer with experience producing scripts for broadcast bulletins or live programmes
15. Proven ability to spot strong stories quickly and develop them for television.
16. Meticulous attention to detail when checking content for accuracy, compliance and style
17. A strong visual sense, with the ability to identify the best use of pictures and graphics to tell a story
18. Experience of video editing to broadcast standard
19. Experience working in or outputting from a gallery environment
20. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams
21. Excellent understanding of the value of diverse contributors and perspectives in news coverage
22. Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
23. Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
24. Understanding of the financial implications of editorial and operational decisions
25. Commitment to cross-company collaboration across ITN and ITV
