Being part of Nottingham College means playing a vital part in helping thousands of people reach their potential. Together, we're making a positive difference to our learners, to our communities and to each other. We're building better futures, for others and for ourselves. Here, you'll have the freedom to work in a way that suits you, the support to thrive and the opportunity to shape your career.

Who we need

We are recruiting for an Educational Interpreter role to join our Inclusion & Support team and work closely with both students and curriculum colleagues. This is a part time role (working days to be confirmed upon student requirements), where you will play an integral part in the delivery of a high-quality educational experience.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

* Provide interpretation to our deaf and hard of hearing learners in and out of the classroom, including liaising between learner and Lecturer.
* To provide support for deaf students during activities outside the classroom, including for example residential trips, travel training, exams, inductions and visits.
* Mentor and develop colleagues reporting to the Specialist Tutor for Sensory and undertake appropriate training for colleague development.
* To undertake initial assessments including environmental adaptations and materials. Assess individual deaf learner communication and language needs to ascertain BSL, lip reading skills.
* To assist in the development of support plans and provide support, both direct and indirect, for deaf students with a variety of hearing loss, in the learning environment, and on an ongoing 1:1 basis outside class.

What you'll bring

You will have experience of interpreting within an educational environment, particularly within post 16 education.

You will demonstrate patience, empathy and kindness as you will be supporting learners in a fast-paced environment. You will work flexibly and as part of team to ensure that learner support needs are met. Communication skills will be key as you will be working with colleagues across different departments, often to meet tight deadlines.

It essential that you hold a Level 6 BSL qualification and can evidence this at interview.
