AssetCool is addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the global energy transition - grid congestion. By combining cutting-edge grid robotics with breakthrough materials science, our technology transforms the physical performance of the grid in situ, increasing current-carrying capacity by up to 30%, at just 5% of the cost and in a tenth of the time compared to conventional approaches.
In addition to enhancing capacity, our solutions tackle other grid constraints including corrosion, electrical noise, and enable the collection of high-value data to build accurate, predictive digital twins. This technology is proving transformative and is being adopted at an accelerating pace, with deployments across Canada, Slovenia, the UK, and the USA, and a strong global deployment pipeline.
AssetCool is a fast-growing company with plans to more than double in size over the next six months. Backed by international investors from the US, mainland Europe, and the UK, we are proud to be one of the most innovation-focused companies in the UK energy sector.
We’re looking for ambitious, mission-driven individuals who are excited to work hard alongside their colleagues to build and deploy world-leading technology that tackles some of the planet’s most urgent infrastructure challenges.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer based in Scotland to lead and support the field deployment of our robotic technology. This is a hybrid role with a strong fieldwork focus, including hands-on installation, testing, and troubleshooting. You will also collaborate at our Scottish HQ and occasionally visit our Leeds office.
This is not a pure R&D or desk-based role, we’re looking for someone excited to take ownership of real-world robotics deployments, manage on-site technical challenges, and help us scale safely and effectively. You will play a key role in ensuring our robots perform reliably in demanding environments.

* Lead field deployments of robotic systems, including setup, integration, testing, and troubleshooting
* Support design improvements based on field observations and deployment feedback
* Assist in the mechanical and systems design of new product iterations
* Collaborate with engineers across mechanical, electrical, software, and logistics functions
* Work with manufacturing and internal teams to prepare systems for field readiness
* Support on local supplier relationships logistics for deployment in Scotland
* Conduct on-site diagnostics and propose engineering solutions to operational challenges
* Occasionally travel to the Leeds office and other UK locations for team collaboration

* 8+ years of engineering experience, ideally with exposure to field-based systems or robotic deployments
* Strong background in mechanical/system integration and hands-on prototyping
* Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
* Experience with ruggedization for outdoor/industrial environments (IP ratings, EMI, etc.)
* Familiarity with embedded systems and debugging hardware/software integration
* Ability to thrive in a practical, dynamic, and often non-ideal real-world environment
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, especially for cross-site collaboration
* Prior experience with outdoor robotics, automation, or ruggedised systems
* Experience working on live energy infrastructure or in regulated field environments
* Understanding of IP-rated enclosure design, vibration/thermal management, and EMI
* Ability to analyse deployment data and work closely with control/software engineers
* Experience with field commissioning and safety documentation
