Armstrong Knight are working with a forward-thinking company in the vehicle salvage and disposal industry. The company has been serving the industry for over 50 years and provides the best vehicle salvage collection and disposal service for UK-based insurance companies, fleet hire, and more.
The company is looking for a full-time permanent Transport Planner to join their team at their Canvey site. The role reports to the Transport Planner Team Leader and is critical to the success of the transport department.
The purpose of the role is to manage daily vehicle collections based on insurance company instructions through a combination of company-owned trucks and sub-contractors. The planner will maximize collection capacity by effectively utilizing the fleet of transporters and topping up routes where applicable.
What will this role involve?
* Routing collections for a designated area, incorporating deliveries and returns where possible.
* Understanding the importance of the role in relation to the Driver bonus scheme.
* Familiarity with all Driver processes, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the working time directive.
* Communicating thoroughly with HBC Drivers regarding collections, returns, and deliveries.
* Managing sub-contractor selection and activity, including timely notification of required collections and deliveries.
* Understanding all aspects of the planning department to provide cover as required.
* Carrying out other transport-specific duties as directed by the Transport Planner Team Leader.
* Understanding the process of routing work through Driver’s hand-held devices.
Skills Required
The suitable candidate must be able to understand the vehicle collection process and work within a clearly defined set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). They should have knowledge of road transport and UK geography, understand driving issues, and have good communication skills.
The successful applicant should be self-motivated, organized, resilient, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to use their initiative. They should demonstrate a willingness to review and suggest improvements to the Driver and vehicle routing applications.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week, between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm, with an hour lunch break.
