Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated biomedical scientist with strong organisational skills and a positive attitude to support our busy histopathology team. To join our department and work in the routine histology lab, cut-up and diagnostic cytology preparation areas. The ideal candidate should have experience of working in Cellular Pathology (Histopathology).
Responsibilities
* Undertake routine laboratory techniques in line with department standard operating procedures under supervision.
* Record information on the Laboratory Information Management System and ensure it complies with national and local data standards.
* Assist clinical staff as appropriate to ensure optimal service delivery.
* Undertake routine operative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation.
* Maintain and update the laboratory protocols of the areas for which the post holder is responsible.
* Undertake specialised aspects of technical work, as deemed necessary.
* Liaise with all other hospital staff as required.
* Follow concepts of Quality Management and ensure adherence to quality control policies.
* Follow policies for quality control working to the specified standards.
* Take corrective action or report to the line manager if work fails to meet the specified standards.
* Assist in the achievement of all key performance indicators.
* Participate in internal and external quality control.
About the Pathology Partnership
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health. The Partnership was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS).
The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership. The Partnership has three operational divisions: Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics. The 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.
