Hours: 37 hours per week (7:30 - 15:30 Monday to Thursday, 7:30 - 15:00 Friday)
Salary: PAYE: £13.26 per hour | Umbrella: £16.84 per hour
Are you a reliable and proactive individual with a driving licence and a passion for maintaining clean communities? NRW People is excited to offer a temporary Driver/Operative in Newport. Starting 13 October 2025, this 30-week position provides sickness cover, offering a chance to support street cleansing and waste management services in the area.
What You’ll Do:
* Complete daily street cleansing tasks as per contract specifications, following the Daily Route Schedules.
* Drive Council vehicles safely, adhering to the Driver Handbook and all health and safety regulations.
* Perform litter picking, sweeping hard surfaces, and emptying bins to maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
* Report incidents, accidents, or faults, and attend required training courses as instructed.
* Undertake additional driving and cleansing duties as directed by the Manager (Refuse & Cleansing), including potential weekend or bank holiday shifts.
What We’re Looking For:
* A motivated individual with a full, current UK driving licence and the stamina for walking, bending, lifting, and carrying duties.
* Experience in refuse or cleansing services is desirable, with the ability to work independently and supervise Cleansing Operatives when needed.
* Good customer care skills, a positive attitude, and flexibility to work a rostered shift pattern (7:30 - 15:30 Mon-Thurs, 7:30 - 15:00 Fri), including weekends and bank holidays if required.
* Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Newport, Newport.
* Knowledge of the Newport City area and willingness to promote equal opportunities are essential.
