This role is ideal for someone who can provide guidance and support to pupils in managing their behaviour, helping them to engage fully with their learning. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils exhibiting challenging behaviours. You will help implement strategies to promote positive behaviour, encourage social and emotional development, and create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant : Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours and maintaining focus. Implement behaviour plans and strategies designed by teachers or SENCOs. Provide one-to-one or small group support as required. Work collaboratively with teaching staff to monitor pupil progress. Encourage positive attitudes to learning and personal development. Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment. Liaise with parents, teachers, and external professionals as needed. Record observations and provide feedback on pupil behaviour. Support pupils’ social, emotional, and communication skills. Supervise pupils during breaks, lunchtimes, or other school activities when necessary. Behaviour Support Assistant Skills & Requirements: Experience working with children exhibiting behavioural needs (in schools or other settings). A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling or a similar field. Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to supporting children. Ability to follow behaviour management plans and strategies. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
