The role

Demonstrating care and compassion to patients, carers and relatives to help ensure high quality patient care is delivered at all times. Providing support to Registered Nurses. Co-operating with and maintaining good relationships and an empathic approach to patients, relatives and carers. Reporting observed changes in patients' physical and psychological needs. Maintaining patient confidentiality and following information governance policies and procedures. Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records, e.g., fluid intake and active care charts. Sharing responsibility for key aspects of housekeeping and stock control.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location: Princess Royal Maternity Hospital
* Part‑time (34.65 hours per week)
* Permanent contract
* Shift pattern: 11.55‑hour shifts


Key responsibilities

* Assist patients with activities of daily living.
* Assist the Registered Nurse and, where appropriate, other members of the Clinical Team to deliver patient care.
* Co‑operate with and maintain good relationships with other disciplines attending and treating patients to maximise patient care.
* Maintain good relationships and an empathic approach to patients’ carers and relatives and refer them to a registered nurse for any questions they may have about the patient’s condition or for any suggestions or complaints they wish to raise.
* Report observed changes in patients’ physical and psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date records to ensure effective communication.
* Work within Divisional policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices and environments for patients and colleagues.
* Adhere to ward and unit procedures for the use of supplies and equipment in order to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required

* Caring disposition, preferably with experience working in a caring environment or role.
* Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
* Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment.
* Ability to fulfil the requirements of the job description, including undertaking in‑house training programme.
