What does this role involve?
We're seeking an experienced PostgreSQL DBA to help us scale our rapidly growing warehouse robotics platform. We have a terabyte-scale database, and we're experiencing ongoing growth with associated scaling challenges.
We need someone who can help us architect and implement scaling strategies to support continued growth while maintaining performance, and take an advisory role on data architecture. We need you to have strong opinions one what type of scaling architectures (partitioning, sharding, data-warehousing / iceberg etc) are best in which situations, and have a proven track record of implementing these solutions at scale on already-deployed production systems.
This role will be mostly remote however will require 1 day per month minimum onsite at our Wallingford facilities. Unfortunately due to this, we cannot consider applicants outside of the UK and cannot provide sponsorship for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Immediate priorities (3-6 months)
* Understand growth estimates and design scaling strategies for largest tables
* Optimize existing indexes and query patterns
* Establish monitoring and alerting for performance regressions
* Develop capacity planning based on customer growth
Ongoing responsibilities
* Query performance analysis and optimization for complex analytical workloads
* Index strategy and maintenance
* Design and implement data archival/retention policies
* Tuning for tables with high write volume
* Connection pooling and configuration tuning
* Maintain backup/recovery strategy and testing
* Working with development team on schema design and migrations
* On-call rotation for database incidents
